Welcome our Guest Choir!
At today's 11 am service we welcome Chanticleer's LAB Choir, a mixed honor choir for singers ages 14-20. The purpose of the group is to promote high-level, small ensemble training for the area's top young singers and to provide community service through free performances. The program includes rehearsals at Chanticleer's home base (the Kanbar Center at 44 Page Street), classes on advanced choral topics, and performances for retirement communities and under-privileged schools. The ensemble is conducted by Ben Johns. The choir gave a wonderful performance of Fauré's Requiem and several other works here at St. Mark's last night. Welcome young singers!
From our Director of Music
On Friday of this week I travel to Germany, where I will join my spouse, John for two weeks of vacation, followed by two weeks of sabbatical/study. I am very grateful to you, the community of St. Mark's for making this sabbatical/study time possible. I will be participating and performing in the Thüringische Orgelakademie, and I will spend time in Eisenach (Bach's hometown and the location of Wartburg Castle, where Martin Luther translated the New Testament in German), playing historic instruments there and in Altenburg as well as several other small towns in the region that are home to instruments that Bach is known to have played or which have other significant historical value. I will also be in Leipzig and will worship at the Thomaskirche, one of the churches Bach served for over 25 years. I will also explore other sites important in the life of Martin Luther, including Wittenburg, Erfurt, Mainz, and Worms. Thank you for this wonderful gift of sabbatical/study time. I look forward to time away, but I also look forward to my return September 20, refreshed and inspired.
Support for Pr. Bekah Davis
The church council has set up a designated fund to assist Pr. Bekah with medical and living expenses. If you would like to donate to this fund, please make your check payable to St. Mark's and note Pastoral Fund in the notation. Thank you.
Volunteer Appreciation Sunday 9/13/15
Thank you St. Mark’s volunteers! Please join in celebration of all the volunteers who contribute to the success of St. Mark’s ministries, committees and our community. The dedication, generosity, time and talents of our volunteers are greatly appreciated and their contributions are vital to sustain and grow our community. Please plan to attend services on September 13 when special recognition and thanks will be given to our volunteers and we will celebrate their contributions. Cake will be provided at the coffee hours and we hope you can join in fellowship and gratitude following the services.
Note: We will not be participating in “God’s Work Our Hands” on this Sunday.
Nominations for Committee to Call a New Associate Pastor
St. Mark's is accepting self-nominations for a call committee to find a new Associate Pastor. Please consider being a member of the committee that will prayerfully consider pastoral candidates presented by the Synod, and make a recommendation to the Congregational Council. Nominees must be a member of St. Mark's. Priority will be given to those who were not on the committee that recommended the call for Pastor Bekah, in order to have fresh perspectives.
Council will review and consider the nominees to select the new call committee during the August 20th council meeting. Nomination forms are available in the narthex, or through e-mail from Andrew Sallach. Nominations will be accepted through August 14 at 4:00 pm, send the completed nomination form to Andrew Sallach at sallach@stmarks-sf.org or leave it at St. Mark's office at 1031 Franklin Street before 4:00 pm August 14.

Summer Knitting and Crocheting Retreats:
Learn How or Share Your Skills
