SMOP (St-Marks-Our-Planet) - Our Hiking and Environmental Service Group. "SMOP" is our joyous St. Mark's hiking (adults, children, singles and families) group that takes to the hills, marshes and waterfronts of the Bay Area about every two months. For our environmental service activities, we designate every third event to do something to care for the critical natural environment of the Bay Area, such as native plant restoration, trail maintenance or beach clean-up. Under the fearless and knowledgeable (he knows everything!) leadership of Steven Krefting, we have trekked over the Marin Headlands, around Mt. Diablo, through South Bay Marshes and many other spectacular Bay Area locations. SMOP Hikes and service events are usually on Sunday afternoons after church (1:00 p.m.) and occasionally on Saturdays for an all-day event. Everyone with sturdy shoes, a snack lunch and a desire to share fellowship in God's beautiful creation is invited to join us. Events are announced during Sunday services and in the bulletin. If you'd like to be on the e-mail list for advanced notification of hikes or service events, contact Tom Benson at takebenson@earthlink.net.
