Wednesday Nights

Wednesday Evenings
at St. Mark's

6:00 p.m. Midweek Supper
All are welcome to join for a community dinner prepared by church members in Heritage Hall prior to worship.
6:45 p.m. Midweek Worship
You are invited to give yourself a gift in the middle of your week.  This worship service will refresh you and leave you with a sense of calm and security.  You will be fed through singing, and quiet contemplation of scripture.  In our peaceful Sanctuary lit with candles, you will feel God's presence and trust more deeply that you are God's beloved child.  Come and be fed.

Join Us for Worship

St. Mark's Lutheran Church is faithful to the heritage of evangelical catholic worship we have inherited. We seek to harmonize the traditions of the past with ongoing, Spirit-led renewal. We find strength in the ecumenical creeds, calendar, and lectionary. The weekly Eucharist is the foundation of our community: the Gospel, proclaimed from the pulpit and shared at Christ's table, is the lifeblood of our congregation.

Sunday Worship with Children’s Time (9:00 am)

Because a large part of our congregation’s identity centers around worship, we offer multiple opportunities for worship in Word and Sacrament.  The Sunday 9:00 am liturgy is considered “low-key,” meaning that even though the worship service follows the liturgy set forth in Evangelical Lutheran Worship, the ritual and formality is not as pronounced.  A typical 9:00 am liturgy is narrated below.

Mid-Week Worship (Wednesday, 6:45 pm)

Because a large part of our congregation’s identity centers around worship, we offer multiple opportunities for worship in Word and Sacrament.  Our worship is not limited to Sunday morning; therefore, we offer a meditative liturgy during the week on Wednesday.  The focus of this service is quiet and reflective, feeding us for the rest of the week.  A typical Wednesday night liturgy (not Advent or Lent) is narrated below.

Other Opportunities for Worship

Sunday is the traditional day for worship, both the first and eighth day of the week, the day when Christ resurrected from the dead on Easter.  Thus, all Sundays of the year are festivals of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Tradition developed throughout the history of the church for other days of importance in the liturgical year.  Some of these days are also celebrated at St. Mark’s.

Sunday Choral Eucharist (11:00 am)

Because a large part of our congregation’s identity centers around worship, we offer multiple opportunities for worship in Word and Sacrament.  The Sunday 11:00 am liturgy is a more formal and ritualized liturgy, following the historic liturgical pattern of Western Christianity as patterned in Evangelical Lutheran Worship.  A typical 11:00 am liturgy is narrated below.

Holy Week at St. Mark’s

The earliest holy day in the liturgical calendar is Sunday, the first and the eighth day, the weekly celebration of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Soon thereafter, the early church began celebrating an annual festival of his death and resurrection.  This annual festival was expanded into a three-day celebration, recalling that “after three days he will rise again” (Mark 10:34).
