Welcome to Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church!
Jesus said: “Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.” Matthew 10:40
St. Mark’s Lutheran Church seeks to be a place where all people encounter the living God and the reconciling Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are an open and affirming community and welcome people of all walks of life who are looking for a spiritual home.
Getting Connected
Prospective members, new members, and “seasoned” members meet throughout the year in Journeys in Faith, a place where people can discuss anything related to faith, such as God, the sacraments, Martin Luther, and more. The first Sunday of Advent marked the formal beginning of this time of gathering with the Rite of Welcome, in which the congregation recognized those people who wish to be baptized or affirm their baptisms.
This rite begins a period which has historically been referred to as the catechumenate, which has the same root as the word catechism. This model of “creating Christians” was lost to the church until the Second Vatican Council, when the Roman Catholic Church formulated the Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.). In the past decade, Lutheran churches have adapted the R.C.I.A. approach to baptism and affirmation of baptism.
